Men in Black has the Best Ending + Alien Theories
In terms of pure first time watching experience obviously Se7en, Fight Club, and The Usual Suspects are three of the best ever. But what I’m talking about is an ending I still think about all the time. No, not the part when Will Smith slaps (these jokes played out yet?) the shit out of the alien and they save the planet, I’m referring to the last 30 seconds:
This ending still blows my mind still to this day. For all we know our universe could be actually miniscule in the grand scheme of things right? We look down at ants and wonder what their life is like, but really we may be the ants or tiny microscopic ants in the grand scheme of things.
We’re so fascinated with discovering life outside of our own and exploring the unknown in space. But even in our own planet scientists estimate that 91 percent of ocean species have yet to be classified, and that more than eighty percent of our ocean is unmapped, unobserved, and unexplored.
Are we maybe just a bit too arrogant? Maybe we’re just no that important. What if our planet is basically a tiny microorganism at the bottom of the ocean of the unexplored space. What if there is a Star Wars like existence out there, that we’re just not technologically advanced enough or too small to experience. Pete Holmes clips also really drills this home. We really are small, and don’t fully understand our existence:
A teacher of mine once said before every test ‘this test is a grain of sand on the beach of life’, this did help justify those Cs and Ds I was getting. But what if our universe is just a grain of sand on the beach of the universe, and not even a good beach like one of those terrible rocky beaches.
In terms of alien contact this reddit image (zoom in) breaks down why scientists believe we have not discovered aliens yet. The bottom two are what I think are most likely but I’ll also throw out a couple more theories which of course have zero scientific basis:
-> We’re Too Small – we’re basically Rudy, aliens don’t even realize we’re making noise because we’re too small to even be aware of. I imagine in other universe there are planets thousands of times bigger than Earth and aliens that are proportional, so a planet and lifeform that is 1/1000 their size hasn’t popped up on their radar.
-> We’re Haven’t Lived Long Enough – Similar to the one above, what if aliens life span isn’t 80 years, but instead millions of years. Intelligent life forms haven’t been around long enough to make a dent. I mean let’s face it we just discovered nuclear energy and went into space in the last 100 years. That’s a relatively short time period.
-> There are Infinite Versions of Our Galaxy – Taking a page from Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, what if there are infinite versions of ourselves out there based on the different choices we could have made? Trippy to think about.
-> The Bill Hicks Theory – Elon Musk has hijacked this one with his ‘we’re in a simulation’ theory. Anything to get a headline right Elon (we know the feeling, will someone please give us a headline?) Also, shouts to the Third Eye by Tool where I first heard this quote.
-> They Don’t Want to Make Contact – It is possible that aliens are a morally superior race and don’t believe it is their right to interfere with such a primitive planet? It’s funny that every movie has aliens coming and trying to destroy us. But as we’ve become more and more technologically advanced, we’ve become more ethical (by comparison). We’re far from perfect, but at least most parts of the world are no longer openly cutting peoples heads off and enslaving people. But Aliens may just be watching us and don’t want to disrupt our growth or have consciously decided not to contact us in fear they may accidently spread disease/cause issues similar to how we treat many uncontacted people around the world.
Those are it for now, would love to hear any other alien thoughts people have, let us know! And always remember:
