The Gray Man by Mark Greaney – Episode 18

The buddies enter the world of globe trotting assassins’ in Mark Greaney’s, The Gray Man.  The action thriller, which which many (read: one person) described as, “a mix between Jason Bourne and Jackie Chan in Rush Hour” had the buddies hotly debating topics. Namely: why you never want to get between a Kazakh/Cossack and their gun,  why blood type is fake and the many benefits of using meth.  The buddies also give expert casting direction, even though the movie has been filmed and is set to be released on Netflix in 2022.

Song of Achilles

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller – Episode 17

The buddies enter the fictional (some say non-fictional) world of Greek mythology following the story of Patroclus and Achilles. The book inspired the buddies to make some movie connections as it followed closely to the movie Troy and also had obvious parallels to Austin Powers and Varsity Blues. Make a sacrifice to a god, grab a spear, jump on a centaur and join us on the ride.

Red Notice

Red Notice by Bill Browder – Episode 16

The buddies jump into the life of high finance, corruption, and murder in the non-fiction thriller Red Notice by Bill Browder. This episode covers a number of topics ranging from, empathizing with multi-millionaires to teaching autocracy 101. Austin Powers and Harry Potter were not mentioned, quoted, or used as a comparison in this episode, breaking a 15 episode streak. The buddies vow to do better next time.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie – Episode 15

The buddies dive into the mystery genre starting off with the ‘Queen of Mystery’ herself, Agatha Christie in her 1938 novel, “And Then There Were None”. The buddies reminisce about the good ol’ days when being a doctor was a lot easier, how spam mail could have saved lives, and why tongue is best served cold.

The Last thing he told me

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave – Episode 14

The Buddies rant and rave their way through the most recent episode on Laura Dave’s ‘The Last Thing He Told Me’.  The buddies go full scorched earth, taking on piggy banks, bad parenting, and Reese Witherspoon and everything in-between. We suggest avoiding this episode if you were a big fan of the book.

Ender's Game

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card – Episode 13

The Buddies jump into the zero-gravity world of Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. They touch on some hot button topics such as: bullying, working from home, video games, and motivation through dire consequences, namely: starvation, torture and violence. They finish off the episode with some deep philosophical questions from listeners.

Dark Matter

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch – Episode 12

The Buddies jump into the many worlds of Dark Matter, a page-turning psychological thriller by Blake Crouch. The Buddies pretty much become scientists as they delve into a number of topics ranging from Schrödinger’s Cat to the exact smell of a Whole Foods. They also manage to  offend a number of professions including: artists, ER doctors, authors and actual scientists.

Transfer of Power

Transfer of Power by Vince Flynn – Episode 11

The Buddies discuss one of their all-time favorite books in Transfer of Power by Vince Flynn. They go into detail about their admiration/awe/lust for Mitch Rapp, come up with a new saying for “bad guy”, and find a correlation between Volvo’s and Millers Lite. They also touch on some lighter subjects like torture, sexism, and destroying family relationships.

Fifth Season

The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin – Episode 10

The Buddies dive into N. K. Jemisin Hugo Award Winning book, The Fifth Season. The Buddies found themselves once again playing stock market advisors, helping our fellow listeners buy or sell V8, unconventional relationship dynamics, and dramatic last lines.  The Buddies also played dictionariers, defining pantomime (emphasis on the pant), fulcrum, and the many meanings of lip licking.

Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey – Episode 9

Alright, alright, alright, the buddies dive into Matthew McConaughey biography/self-help book/poetry collection. They once again chat about the importance of physical abuse,  peeing on road trips, and speak to the younger audience about being in-touch with plants.
