No Country For Old Men – Cormac McCarthy – Episode 56

“The book is better”. “The book is better”. Start practicing that saying now; these are words to live by. The Buddies put this theory to the test while reading Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 classic, No Country For Old Men. The movie, inspired by the book, went on to become wildly successful, but the Buddies wanted to go straight to the source material. It got them talking about why it is important to pay people before talking down to them, if Texas is actually that big of a state, and the downfall of America (specifically smoking laws). So break out your Texas drawl, load up your cattle gun, and go on the run with us while we shoot through No Country for Old Men.

The Goonies – MOVIE – Episode 55

The Buddies never say die! The Buddies watch everyone’s favorite kid-adventure film, The Goonies. There was some dissenting opinions on this one, but the Buddies were able to come together and pay homage to Rube Goldberg, breaking stuff, and Rosalita the housekeeper. So dust off the treasure map, warm up your truffle shuffle, put on your ‘slick shoes’, and join us as we rewatch this childhood classic.

Between Two Fires – Christopher Buehlman – Episode 54

Christopher Buehlman, Between Two Fires, is like a horror filled, comedic acid trip.  Which is exactly how many describe the Buddy Book Club podcast, so the Buddies were big fans. Between Two Fires puts you in 14th century France, a place of: plague, death, and waging war between angels and demons. This episode had the Buddies questioning three things most people find sacred: God, charity, and sex parties. So sharpen your sword, put your mask back on, and say your Hail Mary’s as we jump into this crazy adventure, horror, fantasy novel.

Daisy Jones & The Six – TV SHOW – Episode 53

The Buddies were big fans of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s, Daisy Jones & The Six (checkout our past episode on the book!) This time they’re discussing the recently released Amazon TV Show based on the book. They once again welcome @tuckerpeanutbut aka Billy Dunne to the pod to discuss. Topics ranged from why Pittsburg in the late 70’s was the greatest American city to why goatees are awful (and Eddie is the worst). The Buddies scope out book #2 of the Mitch Rapp series, The Third Option, by Vince Flynn. They are joined by @jimmyhawley – and he came in firing quicker than Mitch Rapp at a terrorist convention. The conversation ranged from mild discussions around water skiing to the positive qualities of Saddam Hussein. So bring your body armor, water skis, kinks, and an open-mind as we read one of our favorite authors.

Hitch – MOVIE – Episode 51

The Buddies watch the 2005 romantic comedy classic, Hitch, or as one Buddy described it, “The best RomCom ever made”, whilst the other Buddy described it, “an absolutely awful movie, I hope to never see again.” The Buddy Book Club podcast has made it to 51 episodes, but it may not see a 52nd after the Buddies came to blows on many topics. Those topics ranged from: toasts, the definition of stalking, and power suits, power ties, and power steering. So come one, come all, we got something for all you Hitch lovers and haters out there.

The Sandlot – MOVIE – Episode 50

The Buddies revisit a childhood classic, The Sandlot movie. It was their collective 115th viewing of the movie, but the first as adults, and it gave the Buddies a different perspective especially on many of the characters. The Buddies got into deep discussions about Wendy Peffercorn, James Earl Jones’ character, and Scotty’s parents. Lot of questionable stock purchases and sales on this one, so don’t miss out. Or in other words don’t be a scab eater, goofus, or ‘L7 weenie’.

We’re All Lying – Marie Still (INTERVIEW) – Episode 49

The IQ level on this episode rose significantly as the Buddies were joined by Marie Still, author of the newly released psychological thriller, We’re All Lying. The Buddies we’re lucky enough to get an advance copy of the book and ask some pertinent questions surrounding Marie’s debut novel.  They also had the chance to ask questions everyone was wondering like: what it is like to have a hedgehog in the family (RIP), if Marie enjoys a Coffee Vodka (CoVo) on occasion, and if it’s okay to empathize with a deranged psychopath. We’re not lying, come listen as we welcome the first author to join the Buddy Book Club.

The Rose Code – Kate Quinn – Episode 48

The Buddies take a crack at the World War II historical fiction novel, The Rose Code by Kate Quinn. Code Breaking, Math, Romance, Book Clubs – all things the Buddies are terrible at, but also happen to be central themes in this great read. Despite feeling like fish out of (the Bletchley Park) water, the Buddies did still really enjoy this book and were able to dish out important life lessons. Like why it is okay to slack off at work, why you should avoid the subway, and the benefits of war. So get your cribs and rods ready, drop your silly debutant disposition, and join us as we break down The Rose Code.

The Menu – MOVIE – Episode 47

The Buddies really consumed their latest movie, The Menu, starring Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nicholas Hoult. The Buddies discussed their love for Cheeseburgers, Lumière from Beauty and the Beast, and prostitutes/call girls. They break bread (not actual real bread just like the movie) with recurring (second time) guest Magic (@nicoitaliano13).
