Heir to the Empire – Book Club Questions
Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, picks up five years after the events depicted in Return of the Jedi. The book brings back all of our old friends including Luke, Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. Let’s be honest, anything that can make us forget about episodes 8 & 9 is worth getting into. The book which was written in 1991 takes a much different (and objectively better) approach to what happened after episode 6, introducing us to a new bad guy, Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn is a much more well rounded character than anyone introduced in the new movies, and became popular after this book appearing in future Star Wars tv series, videos games, and other books. If you need more Star Wars in your life and want an amazing voice rendition of your favorite characters, definitely check this book (and audiobook) out. Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.
Book Club Questions – Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn
-> What do you think about Grand Admiral Thrawn? Did him not having any sort of force powers and being more of a savant (and artist snob frankly), make him better or worse as a ‘bad guy’?
He seemed like a pretty original, and interesting character to us, also interesting to see the empire side be more under sourced and manned, they were the underdog in this one.
-> What did you think of Luke & Mara Jade’s relationship?
Han and Leia, enemies to lovers was cute, but like just kiss already Luke and Mara.
-> Are you attracted to any Star Wars Drawings?
So I did my research after into these characters and some star wars lore… You click on the picture of Mara Jade on Wikepedia? Oh boy, I’ve never been in to anime stuff, but I could see this being a game changer. Just me?
-> Is Leia a bigot that hates Wookies?
Let’s look at the facts: she doesn’t give Chewbacca a medal at the end of New Hope, she’s known Chewbacca for 10 years, yet when she visits his home planet of Kashyyyk, she doesn’t know any of his language, their customs or really anything about the Wookies. Plus, she calls all Wookies ‘aliens’. You’re the alien in their home planet!
-> A lot of the books we read seem great in the moment, but after reviewing, it looses it’s luster – how did you feel about this one?
This was the opposite, at the time of reading we didn’t appreciate it as much as when we finished it.
-> Do you plan to read the other two books in the series?
It was fun, but don’t think it was worth reading the next one, just my opinion.
-> How do you think the book characters compared to the movie?
I thought they were pretty spot on, when you add in the voice acting of the audiobook I definitely was picturing Star Wars.
-> For the new actors introduced, who would you cast?
