Mistborn: The Hero of Ages (Book 3) Book Club Questions
Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. Mistborn: The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson, is book 3 of the epic fantasy series. It’s a series that is somehow both amazingly complex and original, yet also an easy read. Book 3 picks up where book 2 left off with all our old friends Vin, Elend, Sazed, TenSoon, and Spook. The trilogy gets, in our opinion, a strong closure and all of our questions got answered, what else could you ask for? We have a lot of content around the Mistborn series so feel free to check out our podcasts, other book club questions, and make it a movie blogs.
Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them. *Spoiler Warning Ahead*
Book Club Questions – Mistborn: The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
-> Do you think that sometimes assassination is appropriate?
Instead of Vin or Elend just assassinating their enemies they do the ‘honorable’ thing and battle it out and see thousands of foot soldiers needlessly killed. I didn’t really understand that strategy.
-> Was the Lord Ruler all that bad after all?
Yes he ruled with an iron fist for 1,000 years, but he also was smart enough to create storage caches, and write down all his learnings in case he died. He was pretty concerned with the people that came after him.
-> What did you think about Sazed in this book?
We felt pretty bad for him, seemed like he was down in the dumps for the majority of the book. He went from being one of our favorite characters do a guy with no hope or real purpose.
-> Did you feel bad for our guy Spook and how his story unfolded?
In book 1 he is basically treated like Forrest Gump, with Vin being Jenny. Book 2 he’s just a hornball and coward. In this book at one point I was so happy they gave him a redemption ark, but no turns out he’s just being manipulated by Rein the whole time. Then sacrifices himself in a fiery building to release the water – somehow survives as a mangled burned up dude. Sayzed does help him out at the end, which was nice but overall a pretty tough character ark.
-> Who was your favorite character to be inside the head of in this book?
So many to choose from, so many good story arks, even though Sazed was a bit down in the dumps this book (as mentioned above), he was my favorite character and I loved that he turned out to be the Hero of Ages. A surprise but also not a surprise.
-> What was your favorite surprise or breadcrumb from past books that got answered?
Vin’s earring, something that was briefly talked about in book 1, being a Hemalurgic spike, was my favorite. Seed planted so long ago and made perfect sense.
-> Were you happy with the how the series wrapped up?
We thought overall it was great trilogy – unbelievable imagination and world building but somehow simple to read story.
-> Who would you cast in the Mistborn: The Hero of Ages movie?
Need inspiration? We made a posting a Make it a Movie blog about the first book.
