Rock Paper Scissors Book Club Questions
Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. One of the most popular book genres is mystery/phycological thriller, especially those centering around family dynamics/love triangles/husband and wife. We were skeptical at first, but we get it now. These books fly by. They have you questioning everything and everyone and there is nothing like a good twist at the end of a book. Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney falls right into this category. It’s a dark, mysterious page turner in the same vain as a few other books we’ve covered: Sharp Objects, Verity, and The Silent Patient. It didn’t crack either of our top 10 rankings but it was a fun read and one we weren’t disappointed by. Check out our book club podcast on Rock Paper Scissors podcast if you’re interested.
Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.
Book Club Questions –Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney
-> Even though a central plot point of the book is around Prosopagnosia, are you confident in how it actually works?
Seems like the disease really needed a bit more flushing out. All I know is that Brad Pitt has it, but other than that it sounds made up.
->What do you think about dogs with human names, like their dog, Bob?
Huge fan, but thought it was a big miss that they didn’t have different nick names for him, Bobby, Bobbo, Robert (when he’s being bad).
-> Speaking of dogs, there is zero chance that any actual dog owner is making their dog sleep outside of the bedroom when the house is freezing right? No note is persuading me.
Dogs can die from that kind of cold. Plus, the house is a complete mess, if you want me to respect the house, how about providing adequate power, heating, and food, then I’ll consider following your ‘bedroom’ rules about dogs.
-> Not serious but kind of serious, if you purposely leave someone’s phone behind for an 8 hour journey so they have to sit there bored for the whole drive, does that entitle you to murder them…?
That kind of deliberate act is basically the same thing as committing torture. At the very least I’m demanding Amelia turns back or I’m doing a drop and roll out of the car.
-> On this same note, if you are a passenger in a car and don’t have your drivers license, are you entitled to criticize someone else’s driving?
Either get your license Adam or keep your mouth shut. It’d be like someone that doesn’t speak English, correcting my poorly written blogs. Hey, keep it to yourself.
-> What did you think of the huge difference in anniversary gifts? Adam is going above and beyond to do the most romantic gestures (his proposal, buying a house, romantic dinners, symbolic gifts) while Robin gives Adam a paper crane and a ruler?
At one point Robin says, “I guess we have to work on our gift giving”… Sounds like it’s just you that needs to work on the gift giving.
-> Would you ever want to live in Scotland? Reference the yearly temperatures of Scotland below, how about now?
It’s basically 40-50s year round! And Glasgow is their southern most city. I thought it was lush rolling sunny hills, no wonder William Wallace wanted to get out of there. Also, the people marketing Russia need to take some tips from Scotland.
-> What do you think about some of the loose ends at the ending of the book? Do you like when authors leave it up in the air or like definitive answers?
Personally, if I was smart enough to determine these things then I would write my own book, I want the author telling me what happens!
-> Are the British the best at mystery novels? And does having a British narrator make things more mysterious?
Yes and yes. Agatha Christie set the standard. Then of course you got Sherlock Holmes. Any mystery novel with a British back drop/narrator makes it better. Girl on the Train and The Guest List, were also both great recent British psychological thrillers.
-> Who would you cast in a Rock Paper Scissors Movie?
Need inspiration, we’ll have a Make it a Movie blog coming out shortly.
