Rotten Tomatoes Movie Variance: Equilibrium
In our Rotten Tomatoes Movie Variance section we talk about films that are both underrated and panned by critics, with audience score telling the true story. Today we’re talking Equilibrium:
Equilibrium Summary
In an oppressive future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system and state.
Similar in many ways to A Brave New World as one of our astute listeners (Alex) pointed out, but with a lot more action. If you like dystopian movies with a matrix vibe than this movie is for you. Christian Bale absolutely crushes it not surprisingly, this movie predates Batman, but you can see why he was an obvious choice after watching him lead in this movie. The only negatives are really the special effects which are a bit dated now, but aren’t relied on like some movies of this era (*cough* the Star Wars Prequels).
Equilibrium Best Reviews
Hey Mick – it’s called art. Super-violent? Really? More like Mick La Sally, am I right? Am I right?
This one seems like a personal attack. I would criticize this one more if I had any idea what ‘inert’ meant.
Alright, this one was at least clever. Boneheadian? Sounds like a great Friday night to me.
Can always count on my guy Roger Ebert to come correct and give a rightfully ‘fresh’ score. For anyone that doesn’t like this movie, maybe it’s just that you support totalitarian systems?
Equilibrium Best Scene
There is a lot of good scenes but this may be the best and doesn’t give the movie away too much – gotta protect dogs at all cost.
Mood and Movies Similar to Equilibrium
Your angry with your boss or society and need to see a corrupt government overthrown or a couple of smug guys taken down a few pegs? Fire this movie up. A great Monday/Tuesday night gritty movie to help push you through the week. Same tone as the Matrix, with some John Wick vibes thrown in there. Kurt Wimmer wrote and directed this movie, also wrote Law Abiding Citizen which is future candidate Rotten Tomatoes Movie Variance.
Check it out and let us know if you thought it was good or if the critics/Mick LaSalle was right.
