The Gray Man Book Club Questions

Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. The Gray Man by Mark Greaney follows super assassin/operative Court Gentry. Court is everything you look for in a leading man, smart, deadly, dashingly handsome (I’m just going to assume).  If you want a mix between Jason Bourne and Jackie Chan in Rush Hour then you’ve picked up the right book.

We did a full breakdown of Mark Greaney’s first book on our Gray Man podcast episode.  We delved into many topicsincluding: why you never want to get between a Kazakh/Cossack and their gun, why blood type is fake, and the many benefits of using meth. So feel free to check it out.

Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.

Book Club Questions – The Gray Man by Mark Greaney

-> Did you feel that Court has a little bit too much ‘Superman’ in him? Just an unstoppable protagonist fun to read about, but seemingly can’t be killed? Do you need some higher stakes or are you along for the ride?

Could you saw through handcuffs with neck wire, or would you just die?

-> Justine goes from patching up animals to breaking into pharmacies, stitching up gunshot wounds, and witnessing four brutal murders… Would you do all that for $20,000?

Would need to be closer to $20 Million for me.

-> Would Court have avoided this entire mess if he’d just deleted/blocked Fitzroy’s number? Discuss your own “delete the number” threshold.

I’m a big advocate for immediately deleting phone numbers of anyone who wrongs you to “send a message to the whole league.”

-> Court constantly calls his enemies to give them updates on his location and plans. He even calls to announce “I’m outside!” when he has the element of surprise. Is this the worst operational security ever, or just a way to show how good Court is?

Is there any activity that you’re this cocky? Is there anything in your life you could talk this much trash about if your life was on the line?

-> A low-level attorney is somehow given unlimited authority to kidnap children, hire international assassins, and create massive collateral damage for a multinational corporation. With zero oversight. Have you seen this type of lack of oversight go on at your job?

We at the Buddy Book Club gave ‘corporate bureaucracy’ a stock down in this case. A very low selling stock.

-> Court has O-positive blood, which can only receive from other O-types.  Should the CIA only recruit universal recipients?

Do you know your blood type? And is blood type even real, does anyone know how it actually works (doctors and nurses you can skip this question).

-> Twelve of the world’s best special operations teams hunt one wounded man across Europe and accomplish basically nothing. Do special forces outside the US just suck?

USA! USA! USA!-

-> Court is both a notorious assassin everyone knows about AND supposed to be “the Gray Man” who blends in. Lloyd says assassins are “a dime a dozen” then immediately says Court is “the best in the world, everyone knows it.” Which is it? Can you be famous and covert?

Seems like no one should actually know of his exploits and everyone underestimates him which is why he is so dangerous, not a notorious assassin that is the best.

-> Court takes three speed pills and goes from dying to “running so fast snipers can’t track him.” Should we bring meth back for soldiers? (the Nazis used it – not saying they are good!)

Is pharmaceutical enhancement the key to super soldiers, or just a war crime waiting to happen?

-> If you had to survive a gauntlet of international assassins while wounded, which action hero would you want to be: Mitch Rapp (#1), Dutch from Predator (#2), The Gray Man (#3), John Wick (#4), Ethan Hunt (#5), Jason Bourne (#6).

We are and always will be Mitch Rapp Stans.

-> What did you think of The Gray Man Netflix movie, did you agree with the critics or the true fans? (We sided with the fans)

91% Rotten Tomatoes score from non-critics may be a bit high, but it was a fun movie.

Did we miss some questions? Reach out to us or check out our podcast we also did a podcast reviewing the movie.
