The Third Option Book Club Questions
Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. As you would expect we do things a little different around here, I don’t think most book clubs would have The Third Option by Vince Flynn on their list. But we love ourselves some Mitch Rapp. In the second installment of the Mitch Rapp series, Rapp finds himself in Germany trying to snuff out some German arm dealers. No not, Heckler & Koch, but Heinrich Hagenmiller V, who is selling weapons to Saddam Hussein. Things go wrong, and Mitch Rapp find himself looking for answers, while Kennedy and Stansfield back in the states do the same. It’s a fast paced, action packed, thriller and absolutely worth the read. If you’re interested, you can check out our podcast on the book or check out our episode on book one: Transfer of Power.
Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.
Book Club Questions – The Third Option by Vince Flynn
-> Anna Riley’s Book Club sounds awful huh? Sounds like the same old books, every time… Have you been in a book club like this? Have you had to quit a book club before?
If you’re reading this Anna, this is a formal invitation to the Buddy Book Club. Here is just a taste of what you’ll hear.
-> How much money would it take for you to agree to the deal that Mitch gave the Taxi driver? Tied up to a bed and gagged all day?
It would have to be a huge amount for me maybe like $20,000. It sounds awful… or maybe the taxi driver was into it, who knows?
-> When Mitch ‘goes on the run’, it seemed pretty great right? Flying first class, staying at a top resort, drinking beers, enjoying life. Did this change your mind about life on the lam?
Much different from what we saw in Bourne Identity or other books/movies where they have to slum it and sleep with one eye open.
-> What did you think of Hank Clark’s character? Interesting to see a puppet master behind the scenes, especially since most politicians in Vince Flynn’s books are pretty dumb.
He was my favorite character in the book, I thought he was a great villain and am interested to see what becomes of him in the next book.
-> For a 432 page book, this seems to fly by, did you think the same? Did it drag at points? What books have been the quickest you have read?
Vince Flynn I think have some of the best pacing – they go by so quick, which is why I think they’re great beach reads.
-> What did you think of the multiple assassins in this book (Donatella, Cameron, Hoffmans, the Frog) and the fact that they would so easily turn on each other?
I feel like there should be some honor code among assassins that you won’t kill one of your own. That would keep them all a lot safer.
-> Do you think it’s detrimental to start thinking about retirement?
Because it seems like everyone in this book who is ready to hang it up ends up dying.
-> Transfer of Power seemed to have a true ending – whereas this one left things a bit open ended, did you like that, or wish things Rapped up a bit nicer (pun intended).
Don’t get me wrong, I thought the book was great, but I would have loved to see some closure, now I guess I’ll just have to read Separation of Power.
-> What was up with Coleman and the other former special agents letting the Hoffman’s just get assassinated right in front of them and then seemingly not doing anything? Was that scene a bit weird to you?
To quote Marky Wahlberg, if Mitch Rapp was there, it wouldn’t have went down like that.
-> Who would you cast in The Third Option Movie?
Need inspiration? We casted many of these characters when we read the first book, check out our Make it a Movie blog.
