Jurassic Park – Michael Crichton – Episode 46

The Buddies jump into the classic dinosaur sci-fi/horror story of Jurassic Park. No one believed that the Buddies could step up and read a long non-YA book, but ‘Life (the buddies) finds a way’. This episode featured a lot of theories and conspiracies (chicken, Malcolm’s effect, Lex’s true identity), and a lot of selling of traditionally strong stocks (science, grandparents, and kids). So pack your Name-O-Saurus, your raincoat, and maybe a couple of extra rockets, jump into the ‘perfectly safe’ automated driving Jeep and join us on Jurassic Park book ride.

The Gray Man – MOVIE – Episode 45

The Buddies revisit The Gray Man, this time watching the $200 million Netflix action flick. The conversation touched on some of the Buddies favorite topics: Bathroom Etiquette, Austin Powers, and how to correctly pronounce/spell certain words. So join us the only podcast that can match the Gray Man in both action and character attractiveness.

Foundation book

Foundation – Isaac Asimov – Episode 44

The Buddies get real deep into sci-fi and politics in their most recent book, Foundation by Isaac Asmov. This book, in many ways like the Buddies, was a bit dense, so they were lost quite a bit while reading this one. Nonetheless, they powered through and got to chatting about the importance of Wikipedia, Star Wars, Rom Coms, and if Asmov knew that women exist. The Buddies suggest browsing your space encyclopedia and making some flash cards for character names, so you’ll have a great… Foundation for this one.

The Hobbit – MOVIE – Episode 43

The Buddies find themselves back in Tolkien’s Middle Earth, this time watching The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey. Let’s just say this wasn’t the Buddies favorite movie. They discuss the differences between The Hobbit book versus movie, argue about throwing money at problems, food meaning, fully stocked pantries, and much more. Are you in need of a cathartic experience after watching the movie or maybe you are just looking for advice on dealing with a large goiter, either way you’ve come to the right place.

The Silent Patient

The Silent Patient – Alex Michaelides – Episode 42

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides hits home with the Buddies in many ways. It’s a psychological thriller that takes place in a psych ward – which is where many believe the Buddies belong. And it features a patient, Alicia, that has gone mute since murdering her husband – many wish the Buddies would also go mute. So really a perfect book to kick off 2023. The Buddies once again jumped all over the map discussing awful co-workers, the importance of glasses, and living up to your job title. So strap in (your straightjacket if you’re any character in this book), and join us for this page turning mystery thriller.

All Queit on the Western Front Movie

All Quiet on the Western Front – MOVIE – Episode 41

Coming in 2023, the Buddies are jumping into the movie game. We’ll watch movies of books we have read, discuss the differences, the good/bad changes, and of course we’ll still be doing stock up/stock down. All Quiet on the Western front kicked things off, it had the Buddies discussing pissing in public, dubbing movies, and the worst possible ways to die. So grab your popcorn, your German dictionary, your raincoat, and join us as we discuss one of the best recent war movies.

The Hobbit

The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien – Episode 40

The Buddies nerd out (more than usual) as they venture into Middle-earth and take on J. R. R. Tolkien’s, The Hobbit. The Buddies kept things high class on this episode, discussing the gentlemanly topics of: formal introductions, high fantasy (pronounced: high fin-ance-tsy) and tree fornication. So devour your two breakfasts, put on your magical rings, memorize your favorite riddles, and adventure into the magical world of The Hobbit with us.

Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo – Episode 39

The Buddies take their first foray into the Grishaverse with Leigh Bardugo’s, Six of Crows. This book had all of the elements of a Buddy Book Club favorite. Adventure – check. Heist Story – Check. Revenge – check.  6th Grade Reading Level – Double Check. That’s really all it takes. The book had the Buddies (heart) rendering up discussions around kickboards, stock markets/gambling, rallying cries and much, much, more. So pack your gloves, saint-named knives, pearl-handled revolvers, and blast your way through Six of Crows with us.

All Quiet on the Western Front – Erich Maria Remarque – Episode 38

The Buddies entrench themselves into the World War 1 literary classic All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. The book was pretty depressing and not all that easy to joke about, so the buddies stuck to more serious topics like going to the bathroom in public, post work clothes, rats, and awful teachers. The movie just hit Netflix as well, so the Buddies help cast the movie (if it were in English). Stock up on your cigarettes and cigars, grab yourself a spade, and dig into this most recent episode of the Buddy Book Club (and while you’re at it enlist by hitting that follow button). 

The Alchemist

The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho – Episode 37

The Buddies may be legends in their own mind, but learn about their ‘personal legends’ in the classic Brazilian novel, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.  This book which is full of metaphors and symbolism, had the Buddies asking deeper questions like: ‘How fragile are crystal cups?’, ‘Are oases real?’ and ‘Should you be a total piece of shit?’ Fill up your tea, sell your crystal, and join us for this deep introspective journey.
