The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – Book Club Questions
Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. We just finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and while we didn’t believe it was as good as her more recent book (Daisy Jones & The Six), we still really enjoyed it. You can catch the podcast here, if you’re interested or check out our Make it A Movie article on The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.
Book Club Questions – The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
-> Is the Monique character really necessary to the book?
Her addition adds a twists to the ending and some additional context, but were you interested in her relationships (ex-husband, mother) outside of Evelyn?
-> Do we need chapters in Books?
This book really didn’t have chapters, do you think these are necessary to keep your attention/break the book up?
-> Do you believe in the saying ‘ask for forgiveness not permission’?
This obviously comes back to bite Evelyn in her relationship with Celia, is this something you live by or should avoid?
-> What was your favorite scene of this book?
Are you sick like us and enjoyed the car crash scene or are you normal and enjoyed the portion of the book when Harry and Evelyn were married and the two couples were together and happy?
-> Would you ever forgive Don? Could you work with him after he’s changed?
I wouldn’t ever forgive him or work with him, I’d tell him to respectfully suck an egg.
-> How much blame do you put on Evelyn for the first two breakups with Celia?
Personally, I put 10% on Evelyn and 90% on Celia (she is the worst).
-> If you could choose any famous person to be your beard (faking a marriage), who would it be?
For a woman, I think I’d go Julia Louis-Dreyfus, she already did the plutonic relationship in Seinfeld (I know she is just an actor), but she is funny in everything she does and seems pretty down-to-earth. For a man, I’d probably go Leonardo DiCaprio, he seems to live a pretty absurd life, would love to be a fly on the wall for it.
-> Who would you want playing the characters in a movie?
Check out our Make it a Movie article for some inspiration. Do you think The Queen would let Meghan Markle play Monique in film adaptation?
-> How does this rank compared to other Taylor Jenkins Reid Books?
We already read Daisy Jones & The Six, one thing is for certain TJR is an unreal writer, can’t wait to see what she writes next.
