Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow Book Club Questions
Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, is a story about two friends building a video game company together. There are probably a lot deeper themes and relationship stuff that went over our, but if you like video games, like relationship drama, and want a book that’ll fly by, this has that in spades. If you’re interested, you can also listen to our podcast on the book.
Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.
Book Club Questions – Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
-> There are a lot of different time periods, characters, themes, and different elements about this book, what resonated the most with you or was your favorite?
It had some Daisy Jones & The Six feels to me (which is one of my favorite books we’ve read), and the rags to riches building a new company is always interesting.
-> Are you team Sam or team Sadie?
Honestly, I didn’t like either of them as people. Sam at least you can empathize with, but it seemed ridiculous and him complaining about stuff that happened when him and Sadie were young. Sadie being upset about him ‘using’ her to get the graphics engine made zero sense. You’re an adult, he’s not selling you into some sort of relationship slavery. Also, she’s was still friends with that fucko Dov after the fact.
-> Why wouldn’t you want Sadie to be the face of the company?
Sam’s character being the face of the company didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. He’s more of an introvert, more secluded, barely talks to anyone but Sadie, but somehow he’s is also this amazing orator, and story teller, and face of the company? Wouldn’t you want the out-going, attractive, prodigy-in-the-space, women, who can actually talk to people be the face of your company?
-> Does Sadie need serious lessons on how to pack?
She’s trying to leave the shittiest character in the book Dov (I really hated him). Instead of packing all her shit and bouncing while he’s not there – she slow packs her stuff over the course of like 3 days and has to hear him lecture her. Finally after a few days she manages to pack her stuff in a 1 bedroom apartment mind you… Dov finally drives her to the airport only to get another lecture. Just get your shit and get out of there!
-> Which character did you hate most and like most?
I thought Dov was easily the worst (as I’ve alluded to above) and Marx is the best by far.
-> Did the Chain of Screaming Theory from How I Met Your Mother happen in this book?
Lot of yelling at people ‘below’ them. Sadie yelling at a TSA agent, Sam yelling at some random person in the park about his wolf dog, Sam yelling a the couple after being yelled at by Sadie. Overall it didn’t make me sympathize with the characters it made me think they were hypocrites, and worse of all, people that talk down to others not in power.
-> Did you think Sam and Sadie’s argument tactics were a bit toxic?
They seemed to go immediately for each others throats over small creative differences. Without Marx they turned into the real-house wives and not the rational smart people they are.
-> How would you solve Sam and Sadie’s communication issues?
Both character clearly have an issue with communicating what they’re going through. Worst is that they let it impact their work. This whole not telling people what you’re going through but then also not getting your shit done is pretty immature. It’s essentially saying, “I’m really upset, but not going to tell you why I’m upset, you should know” – either voice your concerns or burry it deep down inside like a good Irish-Catholic.
-> Who would you cast in the Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow movie?
Need inspiration? We’ll be posting a Make it a Movie blog on this shortly.
