Nothing is more exciting than seeing a book you enjoyed turned into a movie/TV Series, and although the Buddies were new to Wool/the Silo Series, neither have disappointed. The Buddies cruised through all 10 episodes of the Apple TV Series and discussed their love/hates, and the TV show and book difference. They were joined (for the third time!) but special guest Magic (@nicoitaliano13), who also read and watched the show (but in reverse order). They tackled some controversial topics like: Gender changing, PETA, and Grandpa Joe from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Wool (Silo Series: Book 1) – Hugh Howey – Episode 65

The Buddies enter into book 1 of the Silo Series, Wool by Hugh Howey, and it did not disappoint. The dark, futuristic dystopian story was right up the Buddies’ alley, and certainly scratched the itch (the doctors are still working on those other itches).  Plus, Apple TV just released the first season of the show to pair with it. Per usual the buddies had some deep conversations about sociology and governance, plus opposable/disposable thumbs, germs being all mental, and why it isn’t always good to be the main character. So stay inside, breakout the StairMaster, read up on the Anaconda Plan, and join us as we tear through Wool.

The lion the witch and the wardrobe

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – C.S. Lewis – Episode 64

The Buddies venture into the world of Narnia, rereading a child hood favorite, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. They touched on some interesting topics, such as: is this book is suitable for kids, is this book a religious indoctrination story, and is Turkish Delight more addictive than heroine. Find out all the answers to these important questions in the most recent episode. So pack your winter jacket, your Christmas wish list, your sword and shield, and fawn/faun over this book with us.

Wrong Place Wrong Time

Wrong Place Wrong Time – Gillian McAllister – Episode 63

It’s officially summer (for all our northern hemisphere listeners), so the Buddies are jumping into some beach reads. They kicked things off with Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. The time jumping murder mystery thriller, had the Buddies discussing Instagram’s ‘for you’ section, interview questions, and how they would have made the book ending a lot darker. So don’t respond to that work email, read up on your physics, and jump into the Buddy Book Club time-loop as we read Wrong Place Wrong Time.

Mistborn Hero of Ages (1)

Mistborn: The Hero of Ages – Brandon Sanderson – Episode 62

The Buddies close out Brandon Sanderson’s epic Mistborn trilogy with book three: The Hero of Ages. It just felt right being back in the Mistborn world and revisiting old friends Vin, Elend, Sazed, TenSoon, and (our favorite) Spook. The Buddies got into deep conversations about the book and the ending of the series, as well as deeper more meaningful conversations about life in general. They discussed topics like if it’s normal to drink milk regularly, clothing metaphors, and why dictators can be good sometimes. So stock up on your metals, read up on your political theory, and join us as we burn through the final Mistborn chapter.

Saving Silverman – MOVIE – Episode 61

The Buddies are in the midst of finishing the epic Mistborn series, so while they’re waiting they decided to check out a lighthearted 2001 comedy from their youth, Saving Silverman. Why did they pick this movie? Not sure. But it got them talking about Sweet Caroline and the Red Sox, girlfriend interventions, and reading books at the bar. So if you’re looking for lighthearted childish humor with limited plot check out this podcast. If you’re looking for the same, but at least with Jack Black in it check out Saving Silverman.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow – Gabrielle Zevin – Episode 60

The Buddies are always looking to the future, they have their eyes set on Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, which also happens to be the name of the book they just read by Gabrielle Zevin. This book was right up the Buddies alley discussing many of the things they love: video games, Boston, and sharing feelings. Gabrielle Zevin novel will put you through a roller coaster of emotions and have you siding with different characters throughout the book. So exactly like a typical Buddy Book Club Podcast. So grab your sleeping bag, N64, and Mountain Dew, and join us as we play through Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow.

Heir to the Empire

Heir to the Empire – Timothy Zahn – Episode 59

The Buddies nerd out and finally discuss one of their favorite genres: Star Wars (yes, it is its own genre). This time covering Timothy Zahn’s, Heir to the Empire. The book takes place five years after Episode 6 and features all of our favorite characters: Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie (or as Leia would call him, some random alien).  The Buddies discuss important Star Wars topics such as: rooting for the underdogs (in this case the Empire), if it’s normal to be attracted to Star Wars drawings, and whether or not the Skywalker family are all bigots. So bring your lightsabers, force powers (although you won’t need them much in this book), and X-wing owner’s manual, and join us in a galaxy far, far away…

World War Z – MOVIE – Episode 58

Before the Buddies were recording podcast episodes for the millions of listeners out there, they were having their own unrecorded podcast about the World War Z book. They use this episode to reminisce and argue again 10 years later, but this time about the movie. They debate crucial topics such as: why its overrated to have a family, the proper usage of magazines, and why being bald may not be the worst thing. So prepare yourself for the zombie apocalypse by injuring your knee, shaving your head, and listening to the Buddies discuss the World War Z movie.

The Martian – Andy Weir – Episode 57

The Buddies find themselves back in space, this time stranded on Mars in Andy Weir’s, The Martian. If you like science, trashing on disco, and journaling, this book is for you. If you like two guys who can barely read criticizing a widely popular book, well over their reading abilities, well then this podcast is for you. So join us as we talk suicide pacts, ‘working’ in the shower, and TI-89 calculator games.
