‘Salem’s Lot Book Club Questions

Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.

Book Club Questions – ‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King

-> Do you think there should have been a prologue?

Seems like the prologue just gives away the ending, and especially since the characters were pretty obvious.

-> This book was filled with a ton of characters, who was your favorite?

We were partial towards Mark Petrie – unlike all the adults, he pretty much knows what’s going down instantly, and doesn’t need to be convinced for the the vast majority of the book (like all the other characters…)

-> Does the book still hold up today?

Book is almost 50 years old now, does it still make sense today?

-> After reading are you considering getting yourself a crucifix, you know just in case?

Seems like the only way to defeat a vampire is through Christianity, doesn’t seem like it could hurt.

-> What ever happened to the 300 stakes (steaks?) that Ben made?

Ben was busy making a ton of those, did they ever use them or even attempt to hand them out?

-> Have you lost trust in small town police after Parkins Gillespie just up and decides to turn his back on the whole town for seemingly no reason?

Honestly, what the hell was that?

-> What do you think spooked Father Calhan?

He does come back in future Stephen King books but it was a little strange he just up and left town.

-> Do you think there is a lack of suspense in this book? 

Seems like the reader is keyed into the town being occupied by vampires but most of the book is around them wondering what is going on.

-> How does this rank compared to other Stephen King books?

The only other Stephen King material we’ve done is one of his novellas, The Body, which we liked a better than this one.

-> What actors would you cast in a ‘Salem’s Lot remake?
