Lord of the Flies Book Club Questions
Welcome to the Buddy Book Club – we have a light-hearted comedic podcast that covers a variety of books. We recently burned through Lord of the Flies by William Golding. The classic high school novel was fun to re-read and chat over, you can catch our podcast on it here. Or if you’re more interested in a possible movie remake, we came up with a new movie adaption as well.
Our book club questions try to be a little more outside the box/comedic than your typical book club questions – hopefully you enjoy them.
Book Club Questions – Lord of the Flies by William Golding
-> Should Piggy have employed prison tactics from the start and punched anyone in the face that called him Piggy?
After telling Ralph he hates being called ‘Piggy’, he immediately calls him ‘Piggy’ for the remainder of the book, can’t let that happen.
-> Do you sympathize with Piggy or think that he whined a bit too much?
He always seemed to have 20/20 hindsight, plus he never really chipped in to help. Also, was he faking asthma?
-> What is the modern day conch?
It’s just people that have money right, money buys you a speaking platform/perceived knowledge.
-> Who would you have voted for leader?
Seems like Ralph was the best leader, but ultimately he didn’t succeed.
– > Is the reason that they are so bad at throwing spears because British sports don’t focus on throwing like they do here in the states?
We have football and baseball here, big throwing sports, but what does the UK have?
-> Is the once proud British Navy, actually pretty awful in this book?
They couldn’t find the kids, don’t go after their downed fighter pilot, and then insult the kids for not being more ‘grown up’ when they finally do rescue them.
-> Did Jack actually save them all in the end by lighting the whole island on fire and alerting the navy?
Quite the spin zone, but I’m taking all the credit for saving everyone if I’m Jack.
-> Who would you cast in the movie?
We took a different approach on a new age movie, if you need inspiration. Also, Yellow Jackets is a pretty good show that has very similar themes.
